What are and how to use negative thoughts
The bodymind has its way of getting attention it requires to restore balance. Here is what role "negative" thoughts play.
The bodymind is a beautiful system that balances all the factors to house the consciousness and offer the best possible life experience, given the circumstances.
When the environment (internal or external), changes, there is a natural chain reaction from our body and mind. As a consciousness that resides in a body, we have attention designated to make necessary adjustments.
The life does not wait for us to learn how it operates, it happens in real time. And although most changes are done without our conscious awareness, there are some things that require our actions. If I ask myself, what does my bodymind requires daily, the answer encompasses far more than the popular, absolutely necessary human needs, like water, food and sleep.
If, for a prolonged period of time, I do not honour those needs and still continue to use my bodymind for walking, thinking, talking, the compiled “negative” feeling start to pop up to signal the need to change.
Imagine this: every time you have a “negative” thought, this is the way your bodymind demands action. And the action is simply - to bring comfort.
We are not taught it at school, YET. If I haven't practice comforting myself for a while, it can be hard and seem inefficient at first. But after really brief time you start to see the life-changing difference in the quality of your thoughts.
The healthy way to approach a bad-feeling thought is to do any thing right here and now to bring the comfort to the self. Simultaneously, the subject of the thought must become irrelevant. Why? Because if the bodymind is upset, the quality of your thinking is poor, the conclusions are hard to achieve and the train of thought is usually inconsistent.
I won't crowd your mind with examples of bad-feeling thoughts. I will on the other hand offer you the exercise that you can utilise for a life-time. Every time a thought comes up and you do not like the sound of it, the feeling of it, the implication of it - do something that makes you genuinely better at that point. Make the tiniest thing, the amount of effort should be attainable here and now.
Before I offer you a a list of this kind of things, one last remark. Every time you feel bad with a thought you do not imagine this feeling. It is there and it is more important that the thought content. If you wish to continue the thought because it seems relevant, you disregard your feeling state, which is the keeper of your mental, emotional and physical health. Not a good thing to override. If you continue the bad-feeling thought, it is mental inertia that ignores how your bodymind communicates the need for your attention.
Never ignore your self and your emotional/feeling state. Prioritise your comfort and well-being and act and think from that place. The impetus you get that way makes the best of any task.
Every one of us has thier own mental world. Currently, there is no way to regulate the mind from the outside - every one of us has to learn the mental hygene to keep himself well. Water, nutrition.
Sun, going outside.
Movement, stretching, jumps, dance moves.
Breathing, belly breaths, relaxing the muscles.
Changing the position of the body.
Brushing hair, teeth.
Shower, bath.
Inhalation with oils.
Tea, cocoa.
A sniff of something you like.
Watching your environment.
Affirmations.
Smile. Fake laugh to real laugh (google the challenge).
Music.
A few steps and a stroll.
Switching the activities.
Changjng clothes, getting more comfortable, warmer, cooler.
Massage, feet, fingers.
Changing the light.
Changing the place, opening the window.
Changing the conversation, stating desires.
Singing.
Starting the thing that was postponed.
And a multitude of anything that your creativity will allow you to experience.
