How does your bodymind produce a defence mechanism
How to use this feature in order to only switch from an eustress to a relaxed state.
You are born with some default physiologically based behaviours and tendencies. Every day your bodymind learns many configurations of circumstances and it makes many experiments with responses. Additionally, your consciousness expands and wishes to make an impact through your bodymind.
New situations that you were in, have allowed you to build your notion of the world and your ways of operating in it. Today you have a lot of decisions and knowledge from those situations. Decision like: touching a hot iron is dangerous, speaking to a stranger in a dark alley is dangerous, eating too much is dangerous etc. A lot of detailed knowledge, a lot of grand life choices based on your past experiences.
As natural as this is, if you inspect those choices closesly, they tend to be overly general. What this mean is that you might notice that your bodymind creates general statements about unwanted experiences based of of a sometimes single happenstance. This happens when you do encounter multitude of experiences daily and they do not repeat themselves in a way our organisms were used to experience them. If you meet multiple types of people a day, not just a dozen from your closest environment, your bodymind tends to naturally rely more on generalised knowledge derived from your past experiences. This abundance of experiences is the first reason why you might want to be mindfull of your snap judgments.
The second reason is that the impact of your experiences shape you more if you do not regularily allow yourself to experience negative feeling states. This means, if you do not experience fear, anger or sadness, you won't have knowing of how does those states impact you and what to do with them. If you weren't taught how to experience them and that they are a very natural part of your experience, your defence mechanisms will keep your awareness away from those states.
It does not mean that your bodymind eon't experience them. Defence mechanisms will keep those experiences away from your awareness but you will still be the subject of their presence. And that is the moment when your natural defence mechanisms will be fighting your own inner states, keeping them away from your conscious self.
This is the part where you might be interested in broading your knowledge of negative feeling states and how to experience them healthily and consciously.
As you know when, how, why and what for you experience fear, pain, shame, rejection, helplessness, sadness, anger, etc., you will release a lot internal pressure from your system. Those are very normal states, some of them will continue to appear and they will be used to your benefit.
For example, if you avoid stress, you might miss on eustress which is a form of a brief shot of energy, heightened awareness, more stamina, determination, perseverance and more. Is this a stress response - yes. Can it be used consciously to your benefit? Yes, it is a natural human skill that can be practiced and utilised.
The mechanics of a defence mechanism is that of protection, by various means. If you decide that you do not want to experience something that is happening, your bodymind can make it happen but not with reality eraser. It will cut out some part of you and your energy with that experience. And ususally, you could do better consciously entering the unpleasant experience and seeing for yourself is it truly, with all you can and know here and now, is it somehow doeable for you to shift the experience to a better place. And usually, you can, if not right away, then with visible upgrades one circumstance after another.
This is how you build your organic life experience. Experience comes with emotions, urges, feeling and thoughts. At one point you in the past you might have been in a position where there was little you could do or understand. Yet, as your consciousness develops, it finds ways to be more present with formely dismissed experiences. And you palpably experience full-on co-creation of your reality as it shifts through you.
